Organizing Your Media Transfer Project

  Photos and Slides

Here are a few suggestions for organizing your lifetime of photos and/or slides to create an entertaining video:

How many photos will you need? A photo slideshow is usually timed to music of your choice so the number may vary. A good average is 10 pictures per minute. If you want a 15 minute video, you will need approximately 150 photos. If you have fast music, you may need a bit more and if you have very slow music, you may need a bit less.

To add more interest and emotion in your video choose funny or candid pictures instead of posed shots.

One or two photos from a given occasion may be sufficient. Try not to choose pictures that are too similar to each other.

Horizontal shots will display better on your TV than vertical shots but don't rule out an interesting photo even if it's in a vertical format.

Think about the mood that you want to convey with your video and choose music to match that mood.

Number your pictures in the order you want them in your video. A good idea for labeling your pictures on the back  is to use a post-it note or a very soft pencil. You won't want the writing to show through or distort the picture when it is scanned. Never use ink pens, felt, "Sharpies" or magic markers to label your photographs!

  Movie Film

Some suggestions on organizing your rolls of movie film:

Number the movie film rolls in the order in which you would like them to be displayed on the DVD video. If the reels of film are not in a canister use "post-it notes" for labeling and stick them on the side of the film reel.

As mentioned in the "Photos" section above,
think about the mood that you want to convey with your video and choose music to match that mood. Using a music theme from the era in which the film was shot is a good idea, but sometimes modern music keyed to the film results in an interesting production. You might even consider a mix of the two for an off-beat, interesting effect.

If you have a lot of faded or just plain uninteresting segments in the movie film let us know where they are and we can edit your video accordingly.

VHS, Mini-DV and other Formats of Video Tapes

Number your Video tapes in the order in which you would like them to be displayed on the DVD video.

Let us know if there are certain segments of the video that you would like to have removed before the final cut is made on your production.

Keep in mind that music can be added to the final video too.

VHS Quality Note: Remember that the "record time length" of the original video tape greatly affects the final image output quality to DVD. A video tape recorded on "SP" (standard play, 2 hours) normally has a higher quality look to it (better color saturation and sound quality) than one recorded on "LP"* (Long Play, 4 hours) or on "SLP" (super long play, 6 hours). Note: "SLP" is sometimes referred as "EP" (extended play).

  Vinyl Records and LP Albums

POP, Hiss, Crack - Remember those good old days!

Here is another area where you can get really creative. The simplest way of transferring your records or albums is a straight, start to finish transfer to an Audio CD or mp3. However, maybe you have certain songs on the albums that you don't care for? If so, feel free to make the music mix of your choice! Take time to list the songs on your album in the "track order" in which you would like them to play on the Audio CD or mp3. Remember that Audio CD's only hold so many tracks depending on the length of the song (usually 10 to 14 tracks). Yes, you can mix the song order on each LP or even mix songs from different albums - it's all a fun, personal creative process for your very own entertainment!

By the way, did we mention POP, Hiss and Crack? Ouch!
We have the means to remove most of that irritating noise commonly associated with records and albums without losing the music quality of the songs.

Cassette, 8-Track and Reel to Reel Tapes

The same situation applies here as in transferring music from albums.
Straight across song transfers or get creative - it's all up to you!
Just inform us of the manner in which you would like the songs to play and we'll create an Audio CD or mp3 to your liking.

Audio presentations:
Do you have a special speaker or other type of presentation on tape? We can transfer this to an Audio CD or mp3 for you too. Do you need it edited? We can do this too.
Have you considered adding video to the audio presentation?
